LATE CLOSING AMATEUR SERIES BEGINS SATURDAY

Continuing to set the standard for innovation in amateur racing in California, the first of two late closing events for amateur drivers begins tomorrow. “The 2008 TVG Spring Amateur Driving Series” begins tomorrow, Saturday. Two divisions of horse and geldings will be called to the gate in the first leg of the two leg plus final series. Nominations closed on Monday.

The series will feature two legs and a final with an estimated purse of $8000. The second leg and final ($8000 estimated purse) will take place on the next two Saturdays. The first two legs are open claiming events with tags on the first two legs of $3500 and $4500 plus allowances.

While the series include nominated horses, the amateurs collect points based on the order of finish for each of their drives. The driver with the most points amassed at the end of both series (the other is for fillies and mares in July), will be crowned the driving champion and will have the option to represent the California Amateur Driving Club in the Fauts Memorial race which takes place during Jug week in Delaware, Ohio.
