Following on the heals of the successful TVG/California State Fair Amateur Race Series, The California Amateur Driving Club (CADC) and the Sacramento Harness Association (SHA) have announced a weekly race series for the inaugural fall, 2005 meet.

The program will consist of up to two races weekly, skewed toward the weekend, in a variety of classes.  CADC president David Siegel explained, “our mission is two-fold, first to provide races for our current amateur drivers, and more importantly second, to show potential Standardbred owners that there is a participatory opportunity to get involved in the game if they want to.”

While the details have yet to be announced, the series top finishers will represent California in weekend of racing against the top amateurs from outside of California sometime in January.

SHA General Manager and USTA director Chris Schick commented “Amateur Racing has great historical significance in the sport of harness racing and we are proud to support the efforts of the CADC here at Cal Expo”.

He went on to say “We appreciate the support that TVG and The California State Fair showed for the amateurs in the summer, and are particularly appreciative of our open-minded horsemen for seeing the long-term benefit of amateur racing to the industry.”
