Dear Prospective Member:

Thank you for your interest in becoming a member of the California Amateur Driving Club (CADC). I'm sure you will find that involvement in the sport of harness racing is both exciting and rewarding.

In order to participate in a non-pari-mutuel amateur race you must have at least a "Q" license and approval by the judges. A "P" license and judges approval is required for a pari-mutuel event. For those who are not licensed and possibly new to harness racing, arrangements can be made for you to spend time with a trainer at Cal-Expo. There you will learn the care of horses and equipment in preparation for taking the drivers' licensing exam. That's when the fun begins. You will learn about equipment and spend time cleaning stalls, bathing and walking horses and putting on that equipment. Then, when you are ready, you will have the thrill of climbing aboard a jog cart and sitting behind a horse as you take him/her around the back track for some exercise.

When fully trained, licensed and approved by the judges you will be ready to approach the gate and hear the words "THEY'RE OFF!"

As a member you must join the United States Trotting Association (USTA) and the California Harness Horsemen’s Association (CHHA). The CADC membership fee is $100.00 ($50.00 for 2005), which covers the calendar year. All drivers' checks in amateur races will be either donated to charity or flow back into the CADC treasury. In order to maintain amateur status you cannot accept any money or gifts for driving.

Enclosed please find an application, licensing requirements and additional pertinent information.

If you have any questions, please call our Treasurer, Keith Willey at 209-748-5781 and he will be happy to assist you. We look forward to hearing from you and are sure you will enjoy your harness racing experience.

Sincerely,
